A Positive Mindset for Success!
Knowledge and skills can only be put to good use when directed by a set of sound values. Children need to cultivate the right attitudes, ways of thinking and values that will help them master their school work and get along in their social environment.
develops a set of inner values for a positive mindset and habits of the mind to help children achieve and experience social-emotional-behavioural well-being. In
i-Values, children undergo a unique character-building programme called the You Can Do It! Social Emotional Learning Curriculum (YCDI). Widely used in Australia and the United Kingdom, this programme is designed by Professor Michael E. Bernard, an international consultant to educational authorities as well as an Educational Psychologist and Professor in The Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne, Australia.
YCDI is designed to cultivate a positive mindset for academic achievement and eliminate negative mindset for social-emotional development. It helps develop 5 key foundations (Confidence, Persistence, Getting Along, Organisation and Emotional Resilience) of a positive mindset for achievement and social-emotional well-being.
The theory and practice of YCDI is based on and governed by over 20 years extensive research and experience of Professor Michael Bernard. It incorporates 12 positive Habits of the Mind that supports and nourishes each of the foundations.
Teachers integrate these social and emotional capabilities across the rest of the subjects they teach, such that children use the capabilities in all contexts.
Lessons are carried out in an interactive manner with songs, puppets, colourful visual displays and storytelling that teaches children how to overcome difficulties, get along well with others and work hard in their studies.
Children under the programme benefit in the following ways:
Increased confidence and self-esteem
A positive mindset and perseverance in overcoming difficulties
Improved study and organisational skills that help them manage their schoolwork
Better understand how to manage their negative emotions
Achievements that are over and above expectations
The You Can Do It! Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum is carried out for Primary 1-2 children and serves to enhance our values education in cultivating cornerstone values like trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, compassion and citizenship.
